Financial Aid Documentation Update

January 9, 2019

Due to the government shutdown, the Department of Education has provided a documentation update for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Students or parents needing to provide a tax return transcript – We may now accept:
    • SIGNED copies of 2016 tax returns submitted to the IRS
    • Importing the tax information using the data retrieval tool is still an option

For those needing a non-filing tax letter, you may:

  • Provide a letter of non-filing verification from the IRS

If you are unable to obtain the document, Crowder may now accept a signed statement that contains the following information:

  • An attempt was made to obtain documentation from the IRS and it was unsuccessful.
    • This must include the date and method by which the request was made
  • A statement that you have not filed and are not required to file a 2016 tax return
  • List of any sources of income earned for 2016 by the individual including amounts from each source
  • Copy of the IRS Form W2 or equivalent will be required for all earned income
