Transportation in Neosho

Crowder College is located just south of Neosho, Missouri, a community of approximately 12,000 people. There is no public transportation system and it is important that students have their own transportation while attending Crowder College. Some students choose to rent a car, but often age and insurance requirements make this impossible. The college does not provide any means of transportation so most students find it necessary to purchase a used, older model, mechanically sound car. Students who purchase a car are required to have liability insurance on the car or they will not be able to get a driver’s license. In addition, students frequently use a bicycle, motorbike, or taxi.

Entertainment

Students find various ways to entertain themselves while attending college. The college sponsors events on campus such as plays, concerts, dances, athletic events, and many other opportunities. Neosho is a rural community and offers limited entertainment. There is a movie theatre, bowling alley, golf course, canoeing and hiking opportunities, limited shopping, and restaurants. This area is known for its history with Native Americans, and during the summer months, it is possible to attend Pow-Wows-a fantastic cultural opportunity.

There is a YMCA on the Crowder College campus that offers leisure and fitness activities. Students living in the dormitories receive complimentary membership. The larger community of Joplin, MO, (56,000) located just north of Neosho, offers a wider variety of entertainment. For weekend excursions students’ visit Springfield, Kansas City, and St. Louis to experience larger cities, providing endless entertainment possibilities. Students can also enjoy a leisurely canoe trip and swimming in nearby Noel, Missouri, only 20 minutes from the Crowder campus!
