Crowder Policy
Hazing is any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person or group against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that:
- Is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in, a student organization; and
- Causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in the institution of higher education or the organization, of physical or psychological injury.
- A student group is defined as “an organization at an institution of higher education in which two or more of the members are students enrolled at the institution of higher education, whether or not the organization is established or recognized by the institution.
Missouri Law
Hazing is a willful act, occurring on or off the campus of an educational institution, directed against a student or a prospective member of an organization operating under the sanction of an educational institution, that recklessly endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student or prospective member for the purpose of initiation or admission into or continued membership in any such organization to the extent that such person is knowingly placed at probable risk of the loss of life or probable bodily or psychological harm. Acts of hazing shall include:
- Any activity which recklessly endangers the physical health or safety of the student or prospective member, including but not limited to physical brutality, whipping, beating, branding, exposure to the elements, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug or other substance or forced smoking or chewing of tobacco products; or
- Any activity which recklessly endangers the mental health of the student or prospective member, including but not limited to sleep deprivation, physical confinement, or other extreme stress-inducing activity; or
- Any activity that requires the student or prospective member to perform a duty or task which involves a violation of the criminal laws of this state or any political subdivision in this state.

Reporting Hazing
If you see or suspect hazing, please report it!
Anyone who believes they have experienced or witnessed hazing at Crowder College is encouraged to report their concerns using the Hazing Report Form.
If this is an emergency that requires immediate attention, please contact 911 or Crowder Safety and Security at 417.455.5744 before completing this form. Reports are generally reviewed during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. This report form should not be used to report emergencies.

Hazing Prevention
Crowder provides free training to students, faculty, and staff on hazing prevention.

Campus Hazing Transparency Report
In accordance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act (H.R.5646), Crowder College will provide a report of hazing misconduct involving student organizations.
In accordance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act (H.R.5646), Crowder College will provide a Campus Hazing Transparency Report that provides information on all responsible findings of hazing involving student organizations. The first report will be published here by December 2025.
