Program Overview
The Crowder College Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program is offered each Spring and Fall semester as a 16-week program. The program consists of 16 credit hours and prepares students for employment as a Certified Medical Assistant with the skills needed for placement in health care settings such as hospitals, clinics, and doctor offices. The current certificate program contains 16 total hours in courses such as Intro to Medical Assisting, Dosage Calculation/Medical Administration, Medical Assisting Science, Clinical/Administrative Medical Assisting, as well as a required clinical component.

Program Acceptance/Requirements
The CMA program is a limited-enrollment program that is capped at specific number of students for each cohort. While the program does not have a required application, there are specific requirements for the program including background checks, immunizations, and drug screening. Please talk to an Advisor or Program Representative to discuss the program requirements before enrolling.

Program Learning Outcomes
Upon Completion of the Certified Medical Assistant Certificate:
1. Graduates shall be able to identify specialty physicians while also demonstrating how to refer patients to specialty physicians.
2. Graduates shall be able to assess vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and SPO2, and identify abnormal vital signs, while also effectively donning and doffing proper PPE.
3. Graduates shall be able to proficiently articulate knowledge of generic versus trade name of medications and demonstrate proper administration and storage of those medications.
4. Graduates shall be able to demonstrate how to safely draw blood and recognize abnormal lab values.
How is it Offered?
The CMA program is offered as a traditional 16-week program, currently at the Crowder College Joplin Advanced Training and Workforce Center (ATWC). The program is offered each Fall and Spring semester.
