Crowder Employees of the Year Honored

Three employees of Crowder College received “Employee of the Year” awards for the 2017-18 year at an end-of-year all staff luncheon on May 18th. There was one employee selected from each employee category: faculty, professional staff, and classified (support) staff. Employees were nominated by their peers and/or students and winners were selected by area Chambers of Commerce.

The Gold Star award for faculty went to Dr. Cheryl Dalton, Nursing Instructor at Crowder College Cassville. Dr. Dalton was nominated based upon her dedication to help all students not only succeed but to thrive. Nominations from students overwhelmingly referred to Dr. Dalton as always going “above and beyond” to make sure each student knew they were valued, cared for, and that they could be successful in a

nd out of the classroom. They stated that she was not only a teacher, but a role model and inspiration. A fellow educator and nominator stated “Dr. Dalton makes this program great by doing endless research, trying new things in the classroom, and taking teaching to the next level”. This award is

selected and presented by the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Dalton (center) is presented her award by Ashley Siler (left), Director of Events & Communication and Lauri Lyerla (right), Executive Director.

The Professional Staff Employee of the Year award went to Jeff Elwood, Project NOW Academic Coordinator. Jeff was nominated based upon his servant leadership values that present themselves in his actions each and every day. One nominator stated “Jeff is an excellent advisor who takes the time to get to know the students and how to advise them individually based upon their strengths and weaknesses. The students know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is there for them and has their best interest at heart”. Additionally, Jeff is always willing to “serve” by volunteering in areas outside his job such as assisting at move-in day, assisting with new student initiatives, and providing assistance at Crowder sponsored activities. This award is selected by the McDonald County Chamber of Commerce and presented by the President of the Crowder College Professional Staff Association.

The Classified Staff Employee of the Year award went to Nancy Hutchins, Admissions Administrative Assistant.  Nancy was nominated base upon her ability to make everyone feel like “Crowder is the right place to be” as she is the first one

to greet visitors to the Admissions Office. One nominator stated “Nancy has a kind heart and is a joy to be around. She serves our students and staff with enthusiasm and drive. Nancy is the example of how every employee should be when it comes to serving our community”.
