50th Aggie Day Largest Competition in the State

NEOSHO, MO – Crowder College 50th Aggie Day will be hosted on March 21, 2017 at the Neosho campus. Touted as the largest competition in the state with nearly 2,000 high school FFA students, advisors and volunteers in attendance. The students will compete in nineteen different contests, ranging from Livestock Evaluation to Horticulture to Poultry Evaluation. Being one of the biggest agricultural competitions in the four-state area, Aggie Day attracts students from all corners of Missouri as well as students from Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.  Aggie Day is a benchmark for the high school FFA students preparing for competitions at the District and State Level. For many teams, it gauges how well they are doing compared to their competition.

Crowder College Agriculture Department joins together with the community who show support through donations for awards along with volunteering their time and expertise to manage the contests as well as supply the animals and products being judged.

“The Agriculture Division is very grateful to the business and community members who help support our future leaders in agriculture,” stated Jorge Zapata, Agriculture Division Chair.

With $11,400 in scholarships awarded to the high scoring senior in each contest this makes the event even more competitive. Annually the Agriculture division awards $25,000-30,000 dollars in scholarships.

“At Crowder College, we are very proud to have hosted Aggie Day for 50 years.  It is always exciting to have the Aggies on campus from all across the four-state area.  As you watch the students compete, you quickly see the future of Agriculture is bright because of these talented individuals,” proudly stated Dr. Glenn Coltharp, Crowder College President.

Opening ceremony will kick off in the Bob Sneller Gymnasium at 8:30am. Contests will begin at various locations across campus at 9am.
