Crowder Quill Opens Free Literary-Art Contest

Neosho, MO – The Crowder Quill art and literary magazine of Crowder College is now accepting entries for its annual contest in literature, photography, and art. 

The free competition accepts entries in eight different categories: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, B&W photography, color photography, digital art, 2D art, and 3D art.  

“With the rise of artificial intelligence in society, we welcome the creative expression of human-generated art and original thought,” stated Latonia Bailey, Quill Adviser. “Of course, digital technology may be used as a tool as the Quill is primarily a digital contest.” 

All entries should be sent as digital files and uploaded online at www.CrowderQuill.com. Exceptions may be made for the categories of 2D art (paintings, drawings and hand-made prints) and 3D art (pottery, ceramic, and sculptures), which may be mailed or hand delivered but preferably scanned or photographed to be entered digitally.  

Individuals may submit up to four entries in each category by the Feb. 1 deadline. Specific guidelines for each category and more information may be obtained from the website.   

Crowder students as well as area high school students and community members compete for awards and publication. High school students may also win a $500 scholarship for top placement in each category.  

Email Quill@Crowder.edu to make arrangements for hand-delivered art entries or if internet access is an issue.  Winning entrants will be notified by mid-March. The magazine will be published in May. 

The Quill has been published since 1980 with the mission of encouraging and showcasing local authors, artists, and photographers. It is distributed free on campus and in the community as well as digitally. 

The Crowder Quill class is part of the Digital Media Marketing certificate at Crowder College in which students gain skills in content creation, marketing strategies, social media, graphic design, and communication.

RE: Crowder to host Transfer Fairs

Neosho, MO – Crowder College will host several transfer fairs to assist students in finding the 4-year university that provides the best opportunities for them.

Jeff Elwood, former Graduation, Transfer, and Career Services Coordinator, has over 20 schools scheduled to be on the Neosho campus, Wright Conference Center inside Arnold Farber Hall Tuesday, October 10, 10am-2pm. There are also transfer fairs scheduled at Instructional Centers as follows:

October 25, 10am-2pm, 4020 N. Main Street, Cassville
October 24, 9:30am-1:30pm @ Webb City, 600 S. Ellis, Webb City
October 26, 11am-2pm, 600 W. Edwards, Nevada

Neosho, MO – Crowder College received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs for its Surgical Technology Associate degree program.

“We are excited to receive this news.  This accreditation allows our students to be eligible to sit for the board examination and upon successful completion become nationally certified,” state Melissa Smith, Director of Joplin Advanced Training and Technology Center. “This distinction also recognizes Crowder College’s commitment to providing our students a high-quality education.”

The program is directed by Crystal Meadowcroft and operates at the Joplin Advanced Training and Technology Center, 420 Grand, Joplin. The two-year, highly competitive program provides opportunities for 20 students each fall to enter the program. Neosho, MO – Crowder College Social Sciences division is pleased to announce its history symposium series for 2023-24 with the first event Thursday, September 14, 6pm, Wright Conference Center inside the Arnold Farber Building.

 

“The West before Lewis and Clark: Three Lives,” will be the featured topic presented by Dr. Elliott West, History Consultant, University of Arkansas. West is a two-time president of the Western History Association (an international association). He has published extensively on the history of the American West and the Age of Expansion. He has authored such titles as The Saloon on the Rocky Mountain Mining Frontier, The Contested Plains, Continental Reckoning, The Last Indian War: The Nez Perce Story, and a host of other titles.

 

The history symposium series is a partnership with Crowder College and Missouri Humanities and with support from the Missouri Humanities Trust Fund.

Neosho, MO – The 11^th Annual Roughrider Scholarship Rodeo was a huge success for Crowder College’s Agriculture division.  Both nights were packed with spectators who enjoyed cooler weather on Friday and endured the heat on Saturday.  Record ticket sales and sponsorships added up to over $20,000 raised for the Crowder College Agriculture student scholarships.

“The Roughrider Scholarship Rodeo has been successful because of the tremendous support from the local community, our student volunteers, and the Crowder team. Students lives are impacted greatly by these funds that invest in their future,” stated Jorge Zapata, Agriculture Division Chair and Instructor.

The rodeo has provided the agriculture division more than $100,000 to use for scholarships. These funds help offset the cost students incur during travel and competitive events throughout the year.

Local funny man, Gizmo McCracken entertained the crowd during the two-hour performance along with top ranked cowboys and cowgirls competing in nine rodeo events.  Plans are already in the works for the 12^th Annual Roughrider Scholarship Rodeo.

Neosho, MO – Crowder College is proud to announce Paramedic Instructor & Allied Health Division Chair Ike Isenhower was recently recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for achieving 30 consecutive years of National EMS Certification. This distinction is an honor held by few EMS professionals.

To maintain his status as a Nationally Registered Paramedic, Isenhower completed, on a biennial basis, the most comprehensive recertification program for EMS professionals in America.

By maintaining his National EMS Certification and completing regular continuing education courses, Isenhower has demonstrated his commitment to providing exceptional prehospital emergency medical care.

Isenhower was Nationally Registered as a paramedic in 1992 and has been serving Southwest Missouri community since 2004. Prior to 2004, Isenhower worked in Hot Springs, AR.

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians serves as the National EMS Certification organization by providing a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS professionals throughout their careers and by maintaining a registry of certification status.
