Nursing Program Level II

who are LPNs)
Crowder’s multiple
entry nursing programs cater both to graduates with basic competencies
and a sincere desire to enter the nursing profession as well as to licensed
practical nurses seeking advanced training and continued learning.
What is a registered Nurse?
A Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is compensated for performing
acts requiring substantial specialized education, judgment and skill.
These acts are based on knowledge and application of principles derived
from biological, physical, social, and nursing sciences.
RN’s typically work in a variety of health care related fields,
including surgery, intensive care, pediatrics, obstetrics, home health,
public health, school nursing and so on. Nursing activities include
teaching health promotion and illness prevention, providing care and
counseling to the ill, administering medications and treatments, and
the coordination of health care providers and procedures.
How do you become a registered nurse?
Successfully complete an associate degree or bachelor program and pass
the NCLEX State Board Exam. To take this exam, you must not have a criminal
record involving Class A or B felonies. To be eligible for employment,
negative drug screens are now required at most health institutions.
Application Requirements
The nursing program is a limited admission program, each year accepting
up to 90 students total, (Level 1 and Level 2 combined).
Application requirements are as follows:

Be approved for admission to Crowder College.

Be at least 19 years of age by completion of the program.

Have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on general education courses required for the Crowder Nursing Program.

Have a minimum ACT composite score of 19.

Eligibility to write the Licensure exam as described in the Missouri Nursing Practice Act section 335.066 (1-15); completion of the program does not guarantee eligibility.

Level II Requirements
- Current licensure as a practical nurse.
- Complete Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, and Survey of Chemistry with a minimum grade of “C” in each class. (Prerequisites are required before taking Anatomy and Physiology.)
- Be able to complete the nursing sequence within two (2) years.
- Missouri IV Certification
- Apply to the Nursing program from April 15 - September 1.
All general education courses must be completed by both Level I and Level II students.
