Rough Rider Baseball
The Complete Package—Athletics and Academics!
We feel Crowder College offers a complete package to prospective student-athletes. We have a great baseball program and can help student-athletes prepare for a successful academic career at the same time.
BASEBALL—The Roughriders finished the 2010 season with a record 43-24, including the 2010 Region 16 championship as well as the South Central District Championship earning the programs 1st trip to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction Colorado. The Roughriders finished 5th at the World Series, with both losses to the eventual National Champion.
Every player leaving Crowder after their tenure in the last 5 years has received a scholarship offer from a 4-year institution, continuing the great tradition of placing players at the next level across the country. Some 60 former Roughriders have been drafted and enjoyed a major league career in the past twenty-three years, many still playing in the majors and minors. In the last 5 years 18 roughriders have been drafted, while 9 players signed professional contracts with major league organizations. In addition to professional baseball, Crowder has sent many more players to NCAA Division I baseball programs during the same time. Some of these schools include University of Arkansas, University of Missouri, Oklahoma State University, Fresno State, University of Mississippi, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Texas Southern, and Charleston Southern.

Other schools that former Roughriders have transferred to include Georgia, Nebraska, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, Texas State, University of Southern Mississippi, Wichita State, Missouri State, Central Missouri, Delta State, Southern Arkansas, Cumberland University, Oklahoma City University, among many other major and mid-major conference schools
The Crowder College Baseball Team plays a full 20-game scrimmage schedule in the fall and a regular 56-game spring schedule in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Although Crowder College does not have a conference affiliation, we play a tough 28 game Region 16 schedule, as well as many other nationally ranked teams. Since our campus is located in the southwest corner of Missouri, near the Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas state lines, we play many colleges in the four-state area. Our team also makes a trip each spring to play top talent in Texas.
The Roughriders won Regional 16 Championships in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1991, 2008 and 2010 and the South Central District Championship in 2010. Many individual and team statistics rank in the top twenty nationally each year.
ACADEMICS--Academic preparation plays an important part in helping
students who want to transfer to four-year institutions. Since 1987 over 88% of Crowder’s student-athletes have graduated, a mark well ahead of the national average. We feel one of the keys to graduating players is our student advisee program. Students are assigned advisors, who usually teach in their major, as soon as they make the decision to come to Crowder. Those advisors walk them through the class selection and enrollment process each semester keeping them on track to graduate.
CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS--Crowder College was the first junior college in the state to have housing. In 2000, a new housing complex was built on the campus allowing students walking access to their classes, student center, cafeteria, gymnasium and baseball field.
The YMCA (with an indoor pool) opened on campus in 2001 with residence hall students having unlimited access as part of their dorm fees. The Arnold Farber Academic building was completed in 2008 it is a “one-stop shop” for a student with Admissions, Financial Aid, Bookstore, and Cashiers Office all located on the first floor. The large new library is also located in the Farber Building.
The next large building project for the college is the MARET (Missouri Alternative and Renewable Energy Technology) Center. Crowder is already recognized for its energy-efficient design of cars and houses.

BASEBALL COMPLEX—The ‘Rider baseball field dimensions are 330’ down
the lines with an 8 foot fence and 400” in center with a 15 foot wall. Many renovations have been completed during the past few years, including field resurfacing, dugouts, backstop, scoreboard, outfield fence, side fences, press box renovations, batting cages, and many other projects. Plans for improvements to the facility in the future include upgrades to the locker room area, along with many other projects to improve our ballpark and the surrounding area. Our goal as a coaching staff is to continually improve, eventually having one of the finest community college facilities in the country.
