Computer Aided Drafting and Design is a two year program which provides a working knowledge of drafting fundamentals for students planning a career in mechanical, structural, electrical, or architectural drafting. This program also provides a sound background for various related construction and manufacturing occupations.
As technology continues to advance, employers will look for drafters having a strong background in fundamental drafting principles with a higher level of technical sophistication and an ability to apply this knowledge to a broader range of responsibilities. DRFT 101, Intro to Engineering Drawing & Print ReadingProvides a foundation for all engineering and technical design courses. Topics include basics of freehand sketching and CAD drafting, and print reading. Includes all principles using section, auxiliary and pictorial views to better describe the product.  DRFT 102, Descriptive GeometryProvides entry-level geometry construction techniques for board and AutoCAD Command usage, drawing commands, viewing command and modifying commands. Topics include drawing layouts, 2-dimmensional drawings, editing and viewing commands, drafting practices and standards, file management practices and practical uses of CAD drawings. DRFT 103, Technical DrawingTopics include drawing the different types of fasteners, springs, cams, welding symbols, steel details and basic structural drawing. Editing and viewing commands, drafting practices and standards, file management practices and practical uses of CAD drawings. DRFT 105, Architectural DraftingTopics include drawing architectural plans including floor and foundations plans, electrical plans, elevations and construction details. DRFT 202, Machine DesignProvides topics based on bringing together practical applications, skills and knowledge developed in previous drafting and design courses. Topics include electrical and mechanical components which are then applied to machine design projects. DRFT 203, Tool and Die DesignProvides background in the design of jigs and fixtures.
DRFT 205, Intermediate CADTopics include Associate Dimensioning, “Trace”, calculating strategy, Building Blocks, Symbol library creation, Bill of Materials generation, Isometrics and other three dimensional drawings. DRFT 215, Advanced CADProvides activities including 3D-Drawing, 3D-Modeling, review of AutoCAD’s release 12, review of new types of CAD software, creating custom screen menus, Auto LISP and translating drawings via DXF and IGES.
